Cherleen De Jesus
Position: Physiotherapist/Pilates Clinician
Cherleen graduated with academic and clinical distinctions from the Doctor of Physiotherapy program at the University of Melbourne. She strongly believes that being active is the key to optimal health and well-being, and upholds this philosophy in her movement-based therapy. Her greatest enjoyment comes from helping her clients to achieve their goals and empowering them with the ability to move and feel better, for longer.
Cherleen has a strong passion for sports physiotherapy, having worked with elite athletes at the local, state and national levels. She has a keen interest in acute sports injuries and sports rehabilitation, from years of providing sideline care to local AFL footy, netball and soccer teams. In her time spent abroad, she gained a wealth of experience at Stanford University Sports Medicine, USA, with a focus on high-level rehabilitation of national collegiate athletes in NCAA basketball, football and athletics. Currently, she is a physio with the Melbourne Aces in the Australian Baseball League.
She has a special interest in human biomechanics and how altering biomechanical dysfunction can help to alleviate pain and optimise movement. Cherleen is a strong advocate for clinical pilates and believes that strengthening your core and building the basic foundations of the body can optimise performance. This underpins her additional interests in women’s health, treating acute and chronic spinal conditions and orthopaedic rehabilitation, both pre- and post-surgery. Cherleen is also certified in Clinical Pilates with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.
Outside of West Active, Cherleen enjoys travelling, playing soccer, climbing mountains and social times with her friends and big Australian-Filipino family. She is also an avid yogi and loves to drive up to the surf coast – not only to catch some waves, but to support the Mighty Geelong Cats!
Cherleen is available for consultation from Monday-Friday.
